I taught back to back workshops at
M & D Designs in Chinook, Washington, March 10-13. This is one of my favorite glass studios, right on the Pacific Coast.

My motel room was only about a block from the ocean. Below is the view out my window. Having lived all my life in desert regions, I was ill-equipped for the 4 a.m. phone call advising evacuation to higher ground because of a possible tsunami. It was all a bit surreal for me!

It turned out there was little threat to our area, and after the early wake-up call, I ended up teaching my class which didn't start until 10 a.m. Here's a view of the ocean on the day I left to return home.

I have taught twice in Japan, and made many friends there. Most of my Japanese friends are not in the area where the earthquake and tsunami hit, but the news from Japan is heartbreaking. The impact from these disasters will last many years. Please consider supporting emergency relief efforts
